Last month, while preparing for her sold-out show at The Howard Theatre, Meshell Ndegeocello sat down with PBS News Hour to discuss how arts education enhances teenagers’ ability to thrive in school. As a graduate of Duke Ellington School of the Arts, Meshell is more than familiar with this subject. “For someone like me who didn’t excel in a regular high school environment in terms of academics, [music class] was definitely something that made me more secure as a person finding something I could be good at and a school where I could fit in,” she said.
