Join an uplifting evening of film, music and activism for the world’s children that includes the D.C. film premiere of THE SAME HEART and a world music dance party featuring Motéma Music’s rising global star Awa Sangho, known as the Golden Voice of Mali. The event marks the start of an international campaign to support increased funding for programs for impoverished children.
Award-winning filmmaker/activists Len and Georgia Morris of Media Voices for Children have partnered with Grammy Award-winning record label Motéma Music and Blue Note Entertainment Group to premiere their new film THE SAME HEART, a compelling documentary in which five Nobel Peace Laureates – Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Kailash Satyarthi, Shirin Ebadi, Wangari Maathai, Mairead Maguire – join Nobel economists Joseph Stiglitz and Paul Krugman, ethicist Peter Singer and community workers to show a brave new way forward to lift a billion of the world’s children out of poverty….one transaction at a time. This is within our reach!
Live music will precede the film screening, which will be followed by a Q&A with the filmmakers and economist Dean Baker, founder of The Center for Economic and Policy Research. The evening ends with a world music dance party featuring Awa Sangho, one of the most powerful and creative African singers now living in the United States, according to Afro Pop
The film’s lush soundtrack will be available for the first time at the benefit event. The soundtrack features world, jazz and soul music from Motéma’s global catalog including artists Awa Sangho, Geri Allen, Jaimeo Brown Transcendence, Marc Cary, Kentyah’s New Midnight Band (featuring Brian Jackson, M1 & Martin Luther), Volker Goetze & Ablaye Cissoko, Charnett Moffett and Oran Etkin. All proceeds from the evening will go to the nonprofit Media Voices for Children to support this international campaign.
