The Bad Boys of Go Go... (No Further Explanation Needed)
Northeast Groovers also known as "N.E.G." made their debut into the Go-Go scene in 1988, in a small home in Northeast Washington, DC. It was because of Khari Pratt's dream and the passion he possessed that N.E.G. was founded with the support of his parents Mrs. Pearl Pratt and Mr. Henry Pratt. Following the Go-Go blue print paved by Chuck Brown, N.E.G. took Go-Go to the next level. Over the years the members in Northeast Groovers changed until they found the perfect match of musical talent that would then lead the band to success.
In 1990 Northeast Groovers recorded their first studio album titled “Northeast Crankin.” Since then Northeast Groovers released several albums titled Straight From The Basement, N.E.G. Jams, Northeast Coming, and Northeast on Fire. In addition, N.E.G. also released several radio singles such as Booty Call, Tha Water, and Van Damme. Northeast Groovers went on to be featured in publications such as Billboard and Word Up Magazine. N.E.G. has had the pleasure of performing with national artist such as Mary J. Blidge, R. Kelly, Blackstreet, Wrecks n Effect, Pete Rock and C.L. Smooth, Doug E Fresh, Method Man, Redman, Young Joc, Scarface, Mad Lion, Supercat, Lost Boys, and more…
Northeast Groovers have now settled into a new chapter on the quest to take Go-Go to another level with their new smash hits “Dukes Up" and "Poke It Out”. N.E.G. is ready to pioneer a new era and lead Washington DC's expressive culture known as Go-Go in the direction where it will take its rightful place in the realm of music.
UCB was founded in 1996 just a few blocks away from the Howard Theatre by a dynamic group of talented young musicians who since then have taken Go-Go international like no other. All the members hailing from our Nations Capital, these guys are commonly referred to as "The Party Band". They are a tweener Go-Go band with vision, who understands the soul & funk legacy of older bands as well as the stripped-down intensity of the young'uns, while also having a knack for the type of pop song writing that can yield a radio hit such as their all too popular melodic D.C. Anthem "Sexy Lady". This song was and still is the biggest Go-Go song released since EU's "Doin Tha Butt" back in the 80's.
With the success of that record going Nationwide, it granted them the opportunity to take the show on the road. They took on a role as Wale's international touring band. A major highlight being The Blueprint3 tour where they spent 2 months on the road sharing the stage with JayZ and Pharrell w/N.E.R.D. Over the years being a driving force behind Wale's live show, they have also had the chance to back the likes of JCole, BigSean, Chrisette Michele, BunB, PushaT, KidCudi, Pitbull, Solange and many more. UCB has appeared on late night TV shows Carson Daley, Jimmy Kimmel, Jimmy Fallon, David Letterman, and also BETs 106nPark.
In 2009 they performed on the BET Hip-Hop awards and had the honor of performing as the official house band for the 2009 MTV VMAs. They have also been featured in TV commercials, Cable TV shows and Independent films. UCB carved out its own lane with a presentation that placed its brand of Go-Go on the same shelf as popular modern Hip-Hop & R&B. And now they're bringing it full circle to where it started with "THE RETURN" back home, UPTOWN Washington D.C., at the historical Howard Theatre!!!
